[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] The Blue House revealed that Lee Cheol-hee, Senior Secretary for Political Affairs, conveyed concerns about the situation in the National Assembly to the ruling party regarding the processing of the Media Arbitration Act. This means that the concern was about the confrontation between the ruling and opposition parties ahead of the regular session, not about the pros and cons of the content of the Media Arbitration Act itself.
A senior Blue House official told reporters on the 1st that regarding speculation that concerns from the international community about the Media Arbitration Act were conveyed to the ruling party, "(The Blue House has consistently held) the position that the bill itself and its content are matters for the National Assembly to discuss," adding, "However, I understand that the Senior Secretary for Political Affairs conveyed concerns about the situation in the National Assembly surrounding the processing of the bill."
The senior Blue House official explained, "There are more than 100 legislative tasks related to national agendas that must be processed in the last year of the presidential term. We believe that if the situation of the regular session proceeds smoothly and harmoniously, it will become a productive National Assembly and will also help the national administration."
Regarding the luncheon scheduled for the 3rd between President Moon Jae-in and the National Assembly Speaker and Standing Committee Chairpersons, the senior Blue House official said, "Since the situation in the National Assembly has now brought changes (such as electing a new vice speaker), we arranged a meeting with the National Assembly Speaker and Standing Committee Chairpersons, which had not been possible until now," adding, "We hope this will help foster a cooperative atmosphere among the government, the National Assembly, and both ruling and opposition parties."
