Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority Signs Resource Circulation Project MOU with POSCO
Establishing a Resource Circulation System in Gwangyang Bay Area, Producing Eco-Friendly Products through Waste Recycling
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (President Cha Min-sik) announced on the 1st that it signed a business agreement for the ‘Gwangyang Bay Area Resource Circulation Project’ on August 31 with POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Kim Ji-yong) and Hyosung TNC (Nylon Polyester Yarn PU President Kim Moon-sun).
This agreement was promoted to collect and utilize PET bottles generated in the Gwangyang Bay area to produce eco-friendly products and establish a sustainable consumption and production system, thereby promoting the recycling of land and marine waste and practicing environmental protection.
According to the agreement, the Authority will establish the network system for the ‘Gwangyang Bay Area Resource Circulation Project,’ disseminate cases to related organizations in the region, and manage the process.
POSCO will establish a separate collection and sorting system for transparent waste PET bottles within the steelworks industrial complex.
Additionally, the Authority will promote the purchase of recycled products through local social enterprises, and POSCO will produce and purchase work uniforms and safety vests.
In particular, the Authority explained that through this agreement, it has expanded the collection of marine plastics discharged from ships and the resource circulation project, which had been promoted at Yeosu Gwangyang Port, to the Gwangyang Bay area, thereby establishing a resource circulation system for both land and sea.

President Cha Min-sik said, “Taking this agreement as an opportunity, we will further accelerate the collection of marine plastics discharged from ships and the resource circulation project,” and added, “We will take the lead in spreading the resource circulation culture to local governments and companies within the Gwangyang Bay area and actively cooperate in recycling waste generated in the region.”
