This campaign was prepared to provide an opportunity for citizens to participate by expanding SK Innovation's practical ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) activity, Sanhaejinmi Plogging, nationwide. Sanhaejinmi Plogging is an eco-friendly campaign that embodies the will to protect the mountains (San) and seas (Hae) from plastic waste, a major cause of recent environmental pollution, and create a truly beautiful (Jinmi) Earth.
The campaign is meaningful in that it contributes to establishing a virtuous cycle of plastic waste by producing upcycled products at social enterprises using collected plastic waste and donating them to vulnerable groups, thereby creating social value.
The Korea Central Volunteer Center plans to recruit 150,000 citizen volunteers from 245 regional volunteer centers and environmental organizations nationwide from this month until November to promote this campaign.
In addition, the Korea Central Volunteer Center will recruit about 1,500 more Sanhaejinmi Ambassadors. Ambassadors will be provided with an "Eco-friendly Plogging Kit" consisting of biodegradable plastic bags made by SK Geo Centric, a subsidiary of SK Innovation, and upcycled plastic products from the social enterprise Wooshisan. Selected ambassadors will have the opportunity to participate in practical environmental protection activities through plogging at least once a week and serve as promoters to spread the campaign within their local communities.
Kwon Miyoung, head of the Korea Central Volunteer Center, said, "Volunteers have played a pivotal role in addressing national disasters and social issues," adding, "I hope this campaign will serve as an opportunity for many citizens to join volunteer activities to solve the climate crisis."
