Gwangju Shinsegae Starts Main Sale of Chuseok Gift Sets
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Gwangju Shinsegae Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee Dong-hoon) announced on the 31st that it will hold the main sales event for Chuseok gift sets from September 3 to 18.
Gwangju Shinsegae attracted great attention in the distribution industry as the first local corporation in the distribution sector in April 1995.
Since then, from the early days of its opening in August of the same year, it has prepared most fresh food products with local products through the 'local buyer' system.
In particular, since last Chuseok, as the COVID-19 crisis prolonged, it has steadily increased the proportion of agricultural and marine specialty products to support farmers and fishermen facing difficulties in sales channels.
As a result, last Chuseok's performance grew by -4% compared to 2019, while excellent local products achieved a high growth of 30%. This Lunar New Year, while overall sales remained flat compared to last year, local excellent products grew by 20%.
This Chuseok as well, to focus on expanding sales channels for local agricultural and marine specialty products, local excellent product gifts were placed prominently in the catalog advertisements.
Gwangju Shinsegae directly trades with producers in regions such as Jangseong, Naju, Gangjin, Jangheung, Hampyeong, and Wando, helping farm incomes and offering carefully selected direct trade products at reasonable prices.
First, excellent Korean beef products from Gangjin, Jangheung, and Haenam areas include Sanji Altteul Set 3 priced at 140,000 KRW and Sanji Altteul Set 4 at 190,000 KRW. Also featured are premium Beopseongpo products processed in Yeonggwang such as Beopseongpo Premium Set 2 at 200,000 KRW, Beopseongpo Chamgulbi Set 6 at 200,000 KRW, Set 5 at 150,000 KRW, as well as Jangheung jerky, Damyang Hangwa, mushroom sets from Gangjin and Jangheung, apples from Jangseong/Jangsu, and pears from Naju/Yeongam.
Additionally, Gwangju Shinsegae has been conducting events such as the Win-Win Market since May last year in cooperation with Jeonnam Province to develop sales channels for agricultural and marine specialty products.
In March this year, they opened the Jeonnam 6th Industry Market 'Beyond Farm' on the basement first floor food section and are carrying out various activities together with Jeonnam Province.
This time, in collaboration with Jeonnam Province, they propose local excellent specialty product sets.
Representative sets include Damyang Anbokja Palgakjeong Hangwa Set at 55,000 KRW, Yeosu Momsarang Flower Tea Gift Set at 40,000 KRW, Piagol Traditional Sauce Set 7 at 55,000 KRW, and Nuribodeum Songha Set 1 at 50,000 KRW, showcasing Jeonnam products.
They also paid attention to eco-friendliness through recyclable and reusable paper packaging materials.
Green Star certified products include excellent apples and pears from selected production areas, offered as Apple and Pear Sets at 190,000 KRW and Apple Sets at 160,000 KRW.
Furthermore, low-carbon certified products featuring apples and pears with excellent texture and sweetness from top production areas nationwide are offered as Shinsegae Low-Carbon Apple and Pear Manbok Set at 155,000 KRW and Shinsegae Apple and Pear Dabok Set at 125,000 KRW.
Also, GAP certified products include carefully selected apples and pears grown in trusted farms, offered as GAP Alchan Mixed Set at 110,000 KRW and GAP Apple and Pear Set at 120,000 KRW.
Lastly, since the 2018 Lunar New Year, eco-friendly and recyclable packaging materials and refrigerants have been expanded and introduced. They eliminated all wooden and cloth packaging, using recyclable paper boxes to protect the environment while maintaining product quality, receiving positive evaluations.
They also plan to use practical insulated bags that can be folded for easy storage and reused in various ways.
During the event period, gift delivery is free nationwide for products over 50,000 KRW in the catalog if ordered by September 15. However, some products and island regions are excluded.
CEO Lee Dong-hoon said, “Since last Chuseok, as the COVID-19 crisis prolonged, we have placed our local products prominently in the catalog advertisements to expand sales channels for agricultural and marine specialty products.”
He added, “Recently, interest and importance in eco-friendliness have increased even more. We will contribute to environmental protection by introducing eco-friendly products and recyclable packaging materials.”
