Active Police Officer Dispatched to the Corruption Investigation Office Booked on Charges of Assaulting Taxi Driver
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A police officer dispatched to the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Unit (Gong-su-cheo) is under police investigation for allegedly assaulting a taxi driver.
On the 31st, the Guro Police Station in Seoul announced that they have booked and are investigating active-duty police officer A on charges including assault.
According to the police, A is accused of refusing to pay a taxi fare and getting into an altercation with the taxi driver inside an apartment complex in Singil-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, at 8:39 p.m. on the 23rd, during which the assault occurred.
A was reportedly intoxicated at the time and was arrested on the spot by responding officers.
The case was initially reported to the Yeongdeungpo Police Station, but considering that A belongs to that station, the case was transferred to the nearby Guro Police Station.
