Gochang-gun Hosts 'Soil Environment and High-Quality Agricultural Products Production Symposium'
[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeonbuk Gochang-gun (Governor Yu Gisang) held the ‘Soil Environment and Excellent Agricultural Products Production Symposium’ at Dongri Gugakdang on the 30th.
According to the county on the 31st, this event viewed excellent agricultural product production conditions as dependent on soil, and invited experts from various fields to present topics, hold comprehensive discussions, and perform various performances on methods to create good soil conditions.
Dr. Park Gwangrae of the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences stated in his presentation titled ‘The Necessity of Soil Management for Sustainable Agriculture’ that “the condition most favored by plants is soil rich in organic matter,” and “the county is improving quality by extensively using rice straw in watermelon and melon farming.”
Professor Kim Gilyong of Chonnam National University presented on ‘Soil Microorganisms,’ Agricultural Meister CEO Jeong Jaeyong presented ‘Excellent Cases of Soil Management,’ and Professor Song Chunho (Jeonbuk National University) proposed strategic plans for Gochang agricultural products under the theme ‘Marketing Strategies for Premium Agricultural Products.’
The performance on the day was conducted under the theme ‘Establishing the Gochang Agriculture Rainbow Strategy,’ applying the future of Gochang agriculture as a rainbow by responding to the recent trends of the ‘climate crisis’ and the ‘convergence revolution of science and technology’ era, including low-carbon agricultural technologies, introduction of new income crops, and application of smart farms in the agricultural sector.
Governor Yu Gisang said, “The foundation of agricultural products began with the agricultural culture of the dolmen kingdom in the Bronze Age, and was solidified in the 1970s with the cultivation of reclaimed mountain fields, completing the current ‘watermelon, bokbunja, and melon.’”
Meanwhile, Gochang’s agricultural products have maintained pride as representative agricultural products of South Korea by setting numerous records.
In fact, at the Gochang watermelon auction held at Lotte Department Store Nowon Branch in 2014, a single watermelon sold for 320,000 won, and in 2019-2020, the first-place melon at the Gochang Melon Competition was sold for 2.1 million won for two melons in an online auction, surprising many people.
