Gwangju University Department of Creative Writing Proves to Be a Cradle for Genre Literature Education

According to Gwangju University on the 30th, four students from the Department of Creative Writing signed author contracts with publishers and content companies and are actively working during the first semester of this year alone.
The first to gain recognition was Masohyun (4th year), who made a name by ranking first in daily serialization on the web novel site ‘Joara’ and signed an author contract with Maya & Maru Publishing.
Also, Kim Ja-woon (1st year), recognized for his capabilities as a specialized web martial arts novel writer, signed a contract with Ppul Media Co., Ltd., and Kim Na-young, who won an award at the nationwide high school web novel contest hosted by Gwangju University and entered the Department of Creative Writing this year, signed contracts with SangSang Publishing Co., Ltd. and Cheong-eo-ram Co., Ltd. Notably, Kim Na-young is also scheduled to launch with KakaoPage.
Along with this, Kim Dae-hyun (3rd year) signed an author contract with Papyrus Publishing Co., Ltd. and is making a name for himself.
Earlier, in July last year, the university signed a business agreement with Moonpia Co., Ltd., the largest web novel platform in Korea, and through the Moonpia Academy, students receive the same educational programs as exclusive authors.
Recently, an agreement was made with Kidari Studio Co., Ltd. to hold nationwide high school web novel contests and expand the base of web novel content, accelerating the nurturing of new writers.
Lee Ki-ho, head of the Department of Creative Writing at Gwangju University, stated, “Among four-year creative writing departments in Korea, we have been the fastest to incorporate genre literature creative practice lectures into the regular curriculum, and systematic, field-friendly creative classes are showing their effectiveness.”
Meanwhile, the Department of Creative Writing at Gwangju University actively supports strengthening students’ practical skills by having web novel writers currently active in the field conduct practical web novel writing lectures.
