Daegu-Gyeongbuk Integrated New Airport, First Meeting of Ruling and Opposition Parties' Consultative Body at the National Assembly
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Dong-guk] Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, will attend the first meeting of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport Ruling and Opposition Party Consultative Body held at the National Assembly at 2 p.m. on the 30th.
At the meeting, from the ruling party, Rep. Jo Eung-cheon, the secretary of the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, and Rep. Kang Jun-hyun will attend. From the opposition party, Rep. Kim Hee-guk and Rep. Kim Sang-hoon, who will directly attract the new airport, will participate. From the central government, vice ministers from the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will attend.
At the meeting, they will pledge that Gyeongbuk Province, Daegu City, the government, and the National Assembly will all work together for the successful construction of the new airport.
Before the meeting, they plan to share the progress of Daegu City's 'Integrated New Airport Basic Plan Establishment Service,' the project implementer, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 'Pre-feasibility Study on the Relocation of Daegu Airport to a Civilian Airport.'
The Korea Transport Institute and Korea Airports Corporation will also attend to continue reviewing and discussing the construction of a state-of-the-art smart airport, including an airport plan of sufficient scale reflecting future demand, the arrangement of the civil aviation terminal considering future expansion, and securing the site.
Additionally, Rep. Jo Eung-cheon will be appointed as chairman, and Rep. Kim Sang-hoon as secretary, filling the previously vacant positions. It is reported that Rep. Kang Dae-sik of the National Assembly’s Defense Committee will be additionally appointed as a member of the consultative body.
Regarding the metropolitan transportation construction plan linked to the new airport, Gyeongbuk Province plans to request increased national funding support for the construction cost and operating loss of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Line (Seodaegu?New Airport?Uiseong) metropolitan railway, and request the inclusion of six projects, including the expansion of the Jungang Expressway (Eumnae JC?Uiseong IC) to six lanes, in the national plan and exemption from preliminary feasibility studies.
Governor Lee Cheol-woo of Gyeongbuk Province said, "Today's meeting is meaningful in that everyone is together for the swift promotion of the new airport," and added, "All participating organizations will do their best to build a premium new airport that will be an opportunity for the re-leap of Daegu and Gyeongbuk."

Meanwhile, the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport Ruling and Opposition Party Consultative Body (hereinafter referred to as the consultative body) is an organization where the central government and ruling and opposition political parties discuss administrative and financial support, various deregulations, and policy support for the establishment of plans and procedures related to the relocation of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport. The consultative body was proposed by Rep. Kim Sang-hoon, who represents the Daegu constituency, and was formed on July 21 of this year by the resolution of the National Assembly’s Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee.
