Sangju City and KEPCO Collaborate on Underground Distribution Line Project ... 6 Billion KRW Invested by 2023
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The undergrounding project of electric and communication lines, which will completely transform the cityscape of the central area symbolizing Sangju City, Gyeongbuk, has ignited interest.
Sangju City has decided to bury the distribution lines underground for a 1km section around Gyeongsangjeilmun near the Gyeryonggyo to Hwagaegyo bridges in the city.
This project aims to improve the urban landscape by undergrounding the tangled overhead wires on the streets.
On the 30th, Sangju City announced that it recently signed an implementation agreement with Korea Electric Power Corporation for the ‘Gyeryonggyo~Hwagaegyo Distribution Line Undergrounding Project’ and will officially begin the undergrounding work.
The project budget totals 6 billion KRW, with Sangju City and Korea Electric Power Corporation each contributing 3 billion KRW. After detailed design in December, construction will start in July next year and is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
The project area includes Gyeongsangjeilmun, Taepyeongseongdae Gyeongsang Gamyeong Park, the National Sports Center, and the Sambek Agricultural and Rural Theme Park, serving as a landmark of the ‘historic city’ Sangju.
There has been a strong demand from citizens for improvements in aesthetics and pedestrian environment.
