[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] Acquaintances of Hwang Ye-jin, who died after being assaulted by her boyfriend, are taking the lead in raising public awareness of the case through social networking services (SNS) and other platforms.
On the 24th, Hwang’s friend, A, created an Instagram account named "Dear My Friends" and posted a card news story detailing Hwang’s situation.
A stated, "My 26-year-old friend, who had many dreams, was subjected to indiscriminate violence by her boyfriend overnight," adding, "When Hwang arrived at the hospital emergency room, she was already in a critical condition with cardiac arrest and cerebral hemorrhage, unable to receive any significant treatment."
He continued, "The next day, she was declared brain dead and, relying on a ventilator, she hovered between life and death for about three weeks before becoming a star on August 17."
A shared that the incident occurred just one day after Hwang, who had long wished for it, secured a full-time position at a major corporation and received her first paycheck. He said, "I cannot forget the image of my friend proudly saying she was rewarded for all the effort she had put in when she received her first salary," and lamented, "My friend, who took pride as a team member leading a promising project at an IT company, can no longer realize her bright future."
He added, "The last memory of my always cheerful friend, who was surrounded by many people, was not a happy moment with someone she trusted but a horrific scene of being assaulted by her boyfriend," and said, "The feelings of those around her who had to say goodbye in this way cannot be expressed in words."
