SKT Collaborates with POSCO to Develop AI Solutions for Industrial Safety and Quality Inspection
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] SK Telecom announced on the 29th that it has signed a business agreement with POSCO for technological cooperation on AI solutions for industrial safety and quality inspection.
Since early this year, the two companies have been working together to enhance worker safety within large-scale manufacturing facilities and to expand AI applications in the core competitive field of quality inspection in manufacturing, through smart solution technology exchanges between Pohang and Seoul.
First, in the field of industrial safety, they will collaborate on developing technologies and solutions that use autonomous robots and drones to disinfect workplaces or detect hazards and abnormal signs. To this end, on the 17th, the two companies installed an autonomous disinfection robot (Keemi) at the POSCO Center in Gangnam, Seoul, and began pilot operations.
They will also cooperate to develop and spread solutions to reduce worker casualties caused by repeatedly occurring harmful gases. POSCO’s ‘Smart Safety Ball’ is a harmful gas detector about the size of a baseball, which is nearing commercialization. Workers can throw it into confined spaces before starting work to detect harmful gases such as nitrogen.
Additionally, the two companies will actively cooperate to mutually apply their AI-based quality inspection solutions and jointly commercialize them. SK Telecom’s ‘AE Sensor Solution’ is an AI quality inspection solution that determines product defect levels through deep learning based on various information such as sound and video. The two companies plan to pilot this solution in POSCO’s production process.
POSCO’s deep learning-based AI quality inspection solution, Smart SDD (Surface Defect Detector), is an in-house technology under consideration for independent commercialization. POSCO and SK Telecom plan to enhance the competitiveness of Smart SDD technology together and jointly promote its commercialization.
