Nowon-gu, '2021 Community Health Survey' for Creating a Healthy City
Survey of 916 Nowon-gu Residents Aged 19 and Over Until October 31... Used as Diagnostic and Evaluation Data for Discovering Nowon-gu Health Agendas and Systematic Health Project Implementation
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) is conducting the 2021 Community Health Survey targeting residents aged 19 and older until October 31 to create a healthier city of Nowon.
The Community Health Survey is conducted annually by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and public health centers according to the Regional Health Act. It consists of a total of 163 questions covering health behaviors (smoking, drinking, lifestyle habits), chronic disease prevalence (hypertension, diabetes), medical utilization, and quality of life.
The survey targets 916 residents aged 19 and older selected through sampling. Prior notification letters are sent by mail to the target households, and each participating household member will receive a 10,000 won Onnuri gift certificate.
The survey is conducted through one-on-one interviews by professionally trained surveyors who visit homes directly. To prevent COVID-19 infection, all surveyors have completed pre-testing and vaccinations, and will strictly adhere to quarantine guidelines during the survey.
The survey results will serve as health statistics for Nowon-gu and as basic data for establishing priorities and strategies for public health projects, which will be useful in extending residents' lifespans and improving health.
In fact, Nowon-gu actively reflects the survey results in health policies. According to the 2017 survey, the walking practice rate of Nowon-gu residents was 47.7%, the lowest among Seoul’s autonomous districts. In response, the district improved walking environments such as trails and promenades and promoted various projects to activate walking culture. As a result, the 2020 survey showed a significant increase in the walking practice rate to 64.8%, ranking first among the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul.
Meanwhile, Nowon-gu is implementing various projects to ensure that all residents can enjoy public health services without discrimination. The mobile health bus of the visiting health center is equipped with 17 medical devices of 12 types and dispatches anywhere where vulnerable groups are located to provide comprehensive health consultations.
Additionally, the district operates traditional Korean medicine support projects for elderly people at high risk of dementia and vulnerable children, as well as community-based rehabilitation projects for the disabled, striving to improve health equity among residents and create a healthy city of Nowon.
