View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Soyoung] The mother of a woman in her 20s who died after being assaulted by her boyfriend has revealed her daughter's name, face, and CCTV footage capturing the assault.
According to an SBS report on the 26th, the mother of the late Hwang Yejin stated that the situation was too serious to be simply called dating violence and that proper punishment is necessary, which is why she made the footage public.
The released CCTV shows Hwang's boyfriend, Mr. A, assaulting Hwang. After a prior argument, when Hwang grabbed Mr. A's hair from behind, he pushed her several times against the wall. Hwang then collapsed weakly, and after regaining consciousness, both Hwang and Mr. A re-entered the building.
The bereaved family claims that additional assaults occurred, resulting in swollen lips, gastrointestinal bleeding, fractured ribs, and lung damage.
The CCTV footage continues, showing Mr. A dragging Hwang to the elevator. At this time, Hwang was completely unconscious and unable to move on her own. Mr. A dragged her into the elevator and moved her to the first floor.
Later, Mr. A reportedly called 119 himself and made a false report, saying, "I accidentally hit her head while moving her, but she drank too much alcohol and passed out. There is bleeding on her head." When the police arrived and the parents took her to the hospital, they were faced with their daughter in a coma.
Hwang's mother recounted the situation, saying, "(The doctor) said there is now a brain hemorrhage and no chance of survival. There is nothing that can be done for treatment. There was a lot of bleeding on her underwear."
While Hwang was in a coma, the police booked Mr. A on charges of injury resulting in death and applied for an arrest warrant on the 27th of last month, but the court dismissed the warrant citing "no risk of flight or evidence tampering." Hwang eventually passed away on the 17th.
The police are currently focusing their investigation on injury resulting in death. However, the bereaved family is strongly demanding that murder charges be applied, even delaying the death report.
In an interview with SBS, Hwang's mother said, "The doctor already said that the child had a brain hemorrhage and cardiac arrest, so the time without oxygen was too long." She added, "Just because they fought during a relationship and she died from assault? No matter how many times we think about it, we cannot help but believe this is murder," expressing her outrage.
