The loading ceremony was attended by county officials, Jeollanam-do Small and Medium Business Promotion Agency, and representatives of export companies in Wando-gun. Approximately 70 million KRW worth of Wando seafood products, including frozen abalone, abalone chowder (soup), kelp noodles, yujacheong (citron syrup), gopchang gim (intestine seaweed), and miyeok (seaweed), were shipped to Bangkok, Thailand.
The Thailand promotion was contracted with local Thai buyers during the ‘2021 Wando HMR Online Export Consultation’ held at the Wando Culture and Arts Center last April. As the contracted quantities are being shipped sequentially every month, the county planned and supported the ‘Thailand Promotion’ to increase exports through strengthened Southeast Asian promotional marketing.
The promotion is scheduled to be held twice next month and in October targeting local residents, and will be actively promoted to younger consumers through SNS influencers.
A total of six Wando-gun companies will participate in the promotion: Wando-da, Daehan Mulsan, Nuri Jeonbok, Haechungjeong, Omirok Co., Ltd., and Sammi Young-eo Cooperative Corporation.
The participating companies were directly selected by local Thai buyers through the ‘Online Export Consultation’ held last April and the regularly held ‘1:1 Video Export Consultation’.
Meanwhile, the ‘Wando Excellent Seafood Processed Products Thailand Promotion’ is hosted by Jeollanam-do and Wando-gun and organized by the Jeollanam-do Small and Medium Business Promotion Agency as part of the ‘Jeollanam-do Overseas Permanent Sales Outlet City and County Linked Promotion Event’.
A county official expressed, “Although seafood consumption has seriously declined not only domestically but also overseas due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will continuously strive to increase consumption in the post-COVID era and secure overseas markets through support for overseas promotional events.”
