Lotte Chilsung Beverage's 'Icis 8.0' Strengthens Competitiveness as an Eco-Friendly Product
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Lotte Chilsung Beverage's ‘Icis 8.0’ is gaining attention in the bottled water market for its product performance and leading eco-friendly initiatives.
Icis 8.0 is a mildly alkaline natural mineral water with a pH of 8.0. Natural mineral water is water formed when rainwater seeps through cracks in rocks or underground over a long period, dissolving various minerals before meeting bedrock. It maintains an optimal calcium to magnesium ratio of about 2.4 to 1 and is rich in alkaline minerals, giving it a smooth texture when swallowed.
Lotte Chilsung Beverage is making various efforts, including packaging innovation, to further strengthen the brand competitiveness of Icis 8.0. Notably, in January last year, it launched the ‘Icis 8.0 ECO’ 1.5ℓ product, the first domestic bottled water brand to remove labels from the PET bottle body. In June 2020, it added 500㎖ and 2ℓ products, popular sizes among consumers, contributing to the expansion of the domestic label-free bottled water market.

In February this year, the labels attached to the caps of Icis ECO (1.5ℓ and 2ℓ, two types) PET bottles, produced for bundle packaging, were removed. Although the labels on the caps of label-free bottled water, which indicate the water source and mineral content, were previously naturally removed by consumers during drinking and thus easy to separate for recycling, these labels were also eliminated to ensure that no plastic waste is generated at all.
