Professor Kim Dae-jin of the College of Music Appointed as President of Korea National University of Arts
Elected Through Direct Elections Following Demands of Campus Members
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 25th that Professor Kim Dae-jin of the College of Music has been appointed as the 9th president of the Korea National University of Arts. The term is four years. A direct election system was applied for the appointment. A vote was held last June in response to demands from students and other campus members.

President Kim is a pianist and conductor who graduated from the Juilliard School of Music. He has communicated with the public through roles such as artistic director of the Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra and Changwon Philharmonic Orchestra, director of the KBS Symphony Orchestra Yeosu Music Festival, and director of the Samsung Foundation of Culture. He has been connected with the Korea National University of Arts since shortly after its founding in 1994. As a professor at the College of Music, he has mentored world-renowned pianists including Son Yeol-eum, Kim Sun-wook, Lee Jin-sang, and Moon Ji-young. Minister Hwang Hee of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said, "We expect the Korea National University of Arts, which will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year, to take a leap forward with President Kim's expertise."
