Newly Confirmed Cases 2,155, Second Highest Ever...Critical Patients Record High (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jeong] The number of new domestic COVID-19 cases reached 2,155 on the 25th, marking the second highest ever recorded.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced that as of midnight on the 25th, there were 2,155 new domestic COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 241,439. Of these, 2,114 were locally transmitted and 41 were imported cases.
By region, Seoul reported 673 cases, Gyeonggi 579, and Incheon 117, with the metropolitan area totaling 1,369 cases (64.8%).
Non-metropolitan areas reported a total of 745 cases (35.2%), including Gyeongnam 102, Daegu 99, Busan 86, Chungnam 74, Gyeongbuk 69, Daejeon 64, Chungbuk 59, Gangwon 46, Jeonbuk 38, Ulsan 35, Jeju 27, Gwangju 23, Sejong 16, and Jeonnam 7.
Among the 41 imported cases, 12 were detected during quarantine, and the remaining 29 were identified in the community. Sixteen were Korean nationals and 25 were foreigners. Twenty-two cases were confirmed from Asian countries excluding China.
The number of critically ill patients reached a record high of 434. The death toll increased by 9 the previous day, bringing the total to 2,237, with a fatality rate of 0.93%.
The number of newly released from isolation increased by 1,984, totaling 211,177.
The number of suspected cases tested was 56,857. Temporary screening clinics in the metropolitan area conducted 80,979 tests, confirming 552 positive cases. Non-metropolitan temporary screening clinics conducted 13,019 tests, identifying 69 positive cases, with a total of 150,855 tests conducted.

View original imageAccording to the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team, 397,167 people received their first dose the previous day, bringing the total number of first-dose recipients to 26,701,704. The vaccination rate for the first dose is 52.0% of the population.
For the second dose, 598,454 people were newly vaccinated, with a total of 12,884,222 having completed the vaccination. The completion rate is 25.1% of the population.
A total of 6,023 new suspected adverse reactions following COVID-19 vaccination were reported from the 24th to the 25th.
Among these, 27 cases were suspected anaphylaxis, 153 cases involved major neurological adverse reactions, and there were 10 new reports of death.
Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum stated at the COVID-19 Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters meeting held at the Government Sejong Complex that "the daily number of COVID-19 cases has exceeded 2,000 again after five days. The Delta variant has been confirmed in 9 out of 10 domestic cases."

Prime Minister Kim added, "This wave caused by the Delta variant is on a different level from previous crises. As confirmed in many countries around the world, if we relax even a little, we cannot avoid explosive spread," urging the quarantine authorities to respond swiftly.
