Jeju Fire Department Holds Emergency Meeting to Prepare for Approaching Typhoon 'Omais'

[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Fire Safety Headquarters (Chief Park Geun-oh) announced on the 23rd that it will hold an emergency situation assessment meeting and enter an emergency rescue response system to prevent damage to residents as Typhoon Omais, the 12th typhoon, approaches northward.

The Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters issued an urgent directive to strengthen surveillance activities in habitual flood-prone and disaster-risk areas in preparation for heavy rain, maintain 100% operation of flood control equipment for rapid on-site response, as the typhoon is expected to be closest to Jeju Island around 9 p.m.

Jeju Fire Safety will conduct emergency duty by reinforcing firefighting forces according to the weather alert stages and operate the emergency rescue control team to proactively respond to life rescue and safety measures for various facilities.

In addition, to prepare for a surge in 119 emergency calls, the 119 comprehensive situation room will be expanded by increasing the number of flood control teams and reinforcing control operation personnel, issuing hazard warnings around river flood risk areas, and deploying firefighting forces forward at major ports to actively minimize typhoon damage.

The Fire Safety Headquarters will provide typhoon-related information such as typhoon path, rainfall information, and national typhoon action guidelines on its website, and operate a ‘Typhoon Information Real-time Transmission Channel’ to quickly disseminate firefighting activity updates.

Park Geun-oh, Chief of the Fire Safety Headquarters, said, “We will concentrate all firefighting forces to minimize damage to residents in preparation for the typhoon,” and added, “We ask all residents to fully familiarize themselves with pre-typhoon response guidelines to help minimize damage.”
