The second commemorative medal was planned to re-highlight Solmoe Holy Ground, the birthplace of Father Kim Dae-geon, and to support the global COVID-19 vaccine sharing movement. It was released in two types of gold medals and one type of paperweight medal.
The front side of the gold medal features a statue of Father Kim Dae-geon, a pine tree grove of Solmoe Holy Ground, and the inscriptions ‘Saint Father Kim Dae-geon 200th Anniversary’ and ‘1821-2021.’
The reverse side depicts Pope Francis praying in front of Father Kim Dae-geon’s birthplace during his visit to Solmoe Holy Ground in 2014, along with the inscriptions ‘UNESCO Commemorative Year,’ ‘Manufactured by Korea Minting, Security Printing & ID Card Operating Corporation,’ and the hallmark.
The paperweight medal, designed to hold down papers so they do not fly away, has enhanced artistic value by deepening the relief and applying an antique finish, and it is adorned with a traditional knot.
The front design is identical to that of the gold medal, and the reverse side is engraved with a panoramic view of Solmoe Holy Ground, the UNESCO commemorative year logo, and ‘1821-2021.’
The selling prices of the second commemorative medals (including VAT) are as follows: ▲Gold Medal I (purity 99.9%, weight 31.1g, diameter 40mm) 3,520,000 KRW ▲Gold Medal II (99.9%, 15.55g, 28mm) 1,760,000 KRW ▲Paperweight Medal (copper 90%, zinc 10%, 390g, 80mm) 297,000 KRW. Gold Medal I and Gold Medal II are limited editions with 200 and 1,000 pieces produced respectively.
KOMSCO plans to start pre-orders for the second commemorative medals on a first-come, first-served basis from the 3rd of next month at the KOMSCO flagship store Orot·Dium Hall in Mapo, Seoul, as well as through online shopping malls, NH Nonghyup Bank, Hyundai H Mall, The Hyundai.com, Lotte ON, and Poongsan Hwadoyanghaeng.
Meanwhile, along with unveiling the second commemorative medal, KOMSCO decided to donate 50 million KRW to the Catholic Diocese of Daejeon according to the sponsorship agreement made last year.
