Wando-gun Begins Second Year of Island Seat Forest Trail Trekking Course Project

Creation of Island Scenic Viewing Courses Centered on Geumil, Saengil, Cheongsan, and Geumdang

[Wando＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyungpil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 23rd that it is promoting the ‘Seomjari Forest Trail Trekking Course Creation’ project to provide Wando’s unique forest recreation services differentiated from other regions.

The Wando Seomjari Forest Trail Trekking Course is being promoted as a three-year project from 2020 to 2022 with a total project cost of 1.8 billion KRW secured. Last year, as the first-year project, 58.6 km were created in Wando-eup, Gunoe-myeon, Sinji-myeon, Gogeum-myeon, and Yaksan-myeon.

This year, as the second-year project, 113.5 km are being created in Geumil-eup, Saengil-myeon, Cheongsan-myeon, and Geumdang-myeon, and next year, 48.1 km will be created in Nohwa-eup, Bogil-myeon, and Soan-myeon, making a total of 220.2 km of the Wando Seomjari Forest Trail Trekking Course.

The second-year project focuses on courses where visitors can enjoy the unique scenic views of Wando Island, such as Geumil Myeongsasimni Beach, Saengil Geumgok Beach, Cheongsan Slow Road, and Geumdang Palgyeong.

In particular, by supplementing safety and convenience facilities, the project aims to provide visitors with the optimal trekking course to overlook Wando’s beautiful mountains and sea at a glance.

Park Eun-jae, Director of the Environment and Forestry Division, said, “By creating the Wando Seomjari Forest Trail Trekking Course, we will revitalize the tourism industry, which has been stagnant due to COVID-19, and through synergy with the county’s key marine healing industry, we will do our best to promote the project so that Wando can emerge as a center for marine and forest healing.”
