World No. 4 Kim Sei-young (28, Mediheal) finished tied for 13th place (6-under 282) after failing to lower her score on the final day of the AIG Women's Open (total prize money $4.5 million), the last major of the 2021 LPGA Tour season, held on the 23rd (Korean time) at the Carnoustie Golf Links in Scotland (par 72, 6,850 yards). Korean players have not won any of the five majors held this year. It is a regret for the first time in 11 years since 2010.
Starting with Patty Tavatanakit (Thailand) at the ANA Inspiration in April, Yuka Saso (Philippines) at the US Women's Open in June, Nelly Korda (USA) at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship, and Minjee Lee (Australia) at the Evian Championship in July all claimed the titles. It is the first time in 18 years since the 2003 Nabisco Championship (now ANA Inspiration) that no Korean player finished within the top 10 in a major. Korea is struggling this season, managing only three wins in total.
Kim Sei-young started tied for 8th, three strokes behind, exchanging three birdies and three bogeys. She started brightly with a birdie on the 1st hole (par 4) but made bogeys on the 4th and 7th holes, struggling to reduce her score. She made birdies on the 8th and 11th holes but was far from the winning competition and instead made a bogey on the 16th hole (par 3). Her shot accuracy dropped, missing the fairway seven times and the green five times. She also struggled on the greens with 32 putts during the round.
Korea's Kang Hye-ji (31) finished tied for 29th (2-under 286), Ji Eun-hee (35) and Shin Ji-eun (29, both Hanwha Q CELLS) tied for 42nd (1-over 289), and Lee Jeong-eun 6 (25, Daebang Construction) tied for 48th (290). "Golf Queen" Park In-bee (33, KB Financial Group), who aimed for the top for the first time in six years since her 2015 victory, fought hard by lowering her score by three strokes but finished tied for 52nd (3-over 291). She said, "I like links courses, but I think I got scolded a lot."

Anna Nordqvist (Sweden) shot 3-under to claim a one-stroke victory (12-under 276). This is her ninth career win, her first major since the 2017 Evian Championship, with a winner's prize of $870,000 (about 1.03 billion KRW). 2018 champion Georgia Hall (England), Madelene Sagstrom (Sweden), and Lizette Salas (USA) tied for second place (11-under 277). Minjee Lee (Australia) surged with a 6-under round to climb to a tie for fifth place (10-under 278).
