As of 6 PM, 1,184 COVID-19 Cases Nationwide... 89 Fewer Than Yesterday
Today, 1,500 to 1,600 cases expected... Still maintaining four-digit figures

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] As the fourth wave of COVID-19 continues, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Korea remains in the four-digit range.
According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments on the 22nd, from midnight to 6 p.m. that day, 1,184 new confirmed cases tested positive in COVID-19 diagnostic tests.
This is 89 fewer than the 1,273 cases recorded at the same time the previous day. Compared to the 6 p.m. tally of 1,282 cases last Sunday (the 15th), it decreased by 98 cases.
Of the new confirmed cases that day, 65.5% (776 cases) were reported in the metropolitan area. By city and province, there were 359 in Gyeonggi, 350 in Seoul, 67 in Incheon, 60 in Chungnam, 52 each in Daegu and Gyeongnam, 50 in Busan, 35 in Gyeongbuk, 34 in Chungbuk, 30 in Jeju, 20 in Gangwon, 18 in Gwangju, 17 each in Ulsan and Daejeon, 16 in Jeonbuk, and 7 in Jeonnam. Confirmed cases appeared in all 16 cities and provinces except Sejong City.
The number of new confirmed cases by midnight is expected to be around 1,500 to 1,600. The previous day’s final count was 1,628.
Since the beginning of last month, as the fourth wave intensified, the spread has been severe in various non-metropolitan areas. The daily confirmed cases have remained in the four-digit range for 47 consecutive days since the 7th of last month (1,212 cases).
The daily trend of new confirmed cases over the past week from the 16th to that day was 1,555 → 1,372 → 1,805 → 2,152 → 2,052 → 1,880 → 1,628. At least 1,300 cases were confirmed each day.
New cluster infections occurred linked to daycare centers, academies, logistics centers, churches, and bathhouses.
Since the 13th, a total of 13 people have tested positive related to a daycare center in Mapo-gu, Seoul (second case). At an academy in Gangnam-gu, Seoul (sixth case), 19 people have tested positive since the first confirmed case on the 12th.

In Siheung-si, Gyeonggi Province, a dye manufacturing company, and a logistics center in Pyeongtaek-si (second case) reported 16 and 17 confirmed cases respectively. A total of 15 infections were confirmed related to a bathhouse in Jung-gu, Ulsan. Eleven confirmed cases were identified at a church in Gimcheon-si, Gyeongbuk Province.
