[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae]A massive flood occurred in the state of Tennessee, USA, resulting in at least 10 confirmed deaths.
The New York Times (NYT) and the Associated Press (AP) reported on the 21st (local time) that at least 10 people died and about 40 are missing due to the flood that struck central Tennessee on the 20th.
The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) stated that 20 to 25 cm of rain fell during the heavy rainfall, flooding Dixon, Hickman, Houston, and Humphreys County in Tennessee.
In some areas, more than 30 cm of rain fell, and especially in McEwen village in Humphreys County, the daily rainfall exceeded 43 cm, breaking the record for the highest since 1982.
Due to this flood, houses and elementary schools in Humphreys County were submerged up to their roofs, and vehicles were swept away by the water currents, causing continuous damage.
Rob Edwards, Chief Deputy Sheriff of the Humphreys County Sheriff's Office, which suffered the most damage, said, "The entire area experienced a power outage," adding, "Many roads, including rural areas and major highways, were washed away." He also added, "This is the worst flood I have seen in 20 years."
It is also reported that mobile communication services are currently down in the area.
According to the Tennessee Fire Department, at least 4,200 households are without power.
The Meriwether Lewis Electric Cooperative stated that it may take several days to restore power and broadband services in the area.
Fire authorities urged people not to cross flooded roads or sidewalks and to be cautious of drowning accidents by paying attention to their surroundings.
