Muju-gun Provides Disaster Relief Funds to Farms Affected by Abnormal Cold Temperatures
[Muju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Muju County announced on the 20th that it will provide disaster relief funds to help farmers affected by the abnormal low-temperature phenomenon that occurred last April resume farming.
According to Muju County, on April 15, the influx of cold air from the northwest caused temperatures to drop below freezing, resulting in damage to apple flower buds in the early growth stage and fruit drop due to insufficient pollination, causing significant damage to crops.
The damage area in Muju County was recorded as a total of 594 hectares, including 475 hectares of apples, 51 hectares of peaches, 33 hectares of ginseng, and 35 hectares of other general crops.
The county actively requested national funding to ensure rapid recovery of the damage and stabilize the management of affected farms amid the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and other difficulties.
As a result, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs confirmed a restoration budget of 1.696 billion KRW (70% national funds, 15% provincial funds, 15% county funds).
Muju County plans to first provide 1.1809 billion KRW in national funds to 734 farms affected by the low temperature damage in August as an advance payment.
Additionally, 561 million KRW from provincial and county funds will be allocated through the second supplementary budget and paid before Chuseok.
Furthermore, for 34 farms with small-scale damage that do not qualify for central government support, the county plans to provide 7 million KRW in restoration funds from its own budget.
