Polaris Office Joins 'Metaverse Alliance'... Developing Collaborative Services
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Office software (SW) specialist Polaris Office announced on the 20th that it has joined the ‘Metaverse Alliance’ and is promoting a project to develop ‘virtual space-based collaboration services.’
The ‘Metaverse Alliance’ is a private ‘K-Metaverse Coalition’ promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT as part of the government’s Digital New Deal policy. About 200 member companies, including Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor, SK Telecom, and Naver Labs, participate to cooperate in technology collaboration, planning tasks and joint business discovery, and legal system improvements.
A Polaris Office official said, “Since COVID-19, the metaverse has rapidly emerged as a new trend, and the work environment is also undergoing rapid changes based on non-face-to-face methods such as telecommuting and remote collaboration,” adding, “We plan to develop metaverse technology-based collaboration services to achieve work productivity and efficiency similar to real environments even in non-face-to-face settings.”
Polaris Office aims to strengthen its competitiveness in the global collaboration service market by combining metaverse technology with its own platform ‘Polaris Office,’ which has 110 million subscribers in 243 countries worldwide.
They plan to develop metaverse-based collaboration services such as attendance management using personal avatars, providing virtual office spaces and virtual meeting places similar to real ones, and document sharing and collaboration environments that convert existing document formats into interactive 3D. To this end, they are considering promoting technical collaboration with VR (virtual reality), AR (augmented reality) device companies, and video conferencing solution providers.
A company official stated, “We will add metaverse technology capabilities to the document and collaboration service technology, business experience, and global brand value that Polaris Office possesses,” and said, “We will cooperate with companies participating in the ‘Metaverse Alliance’ to help domestic companies secure a leading position in the global metaverse market.”
