Police Investigate Dongdaemun-gu Mayor Yudeok-yeol Over Alleged Misuse of Staff Incentive Funds
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] The police investigating Dongdaemun District Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol (67) on charges of bribery and embezzlement are also reportedly looking into suspicions that Mayor Yoo embezzled encouragement funds meant for employees.
According to the police on the 20th, the Anti-Corruption and Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency is also examining allegations that Mayor Yoo embezzled encouragement funds intended for employees. Mayor Yoo has been booked on charges of bribery and embezzlement.
The police conducted search and seizure operations at six locations, including Mayor Yoo's office and residence, on the 13th, and are currently analyzing the seized items. After analyzing the evidence, the police are expected to summon Mayor Yoo for questioning.
Mayor Yoo issued a statement denying the charges, saying, "I have never accepted any bribes."

Mayor Yoo served as Dongdaemun District Mayor from 1998 to 2002 and was re-elected in the 2010 local elections, currently serving in office.
