Police Catch 34 People for Late-Night 'Illegal Business' at Hold'em Pub in Seocho-gu
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] A hold'em pub that violated quarantine rules and operated illegally was caught by the police. Hold'em pubs are businesses restricted from operating under Level 4 social distancing measures.
According to the police on the 19th, the Seocho Police Station in Seoul cracked down on a total of 34 people, including business owner Mr. A and 33 customers, for violating the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act at a hold'em pub in Banpo-dong, Seocho-gu, around 12:25 a.m. that day.
Police who responded to a report of an "illegal gambling site" around 11 p.m. the previous day forcibly opened the entrance with the fire department after the owner refused to comply with the crackdown. Subsequently, the police caught Mr. A and 33 customers hiding in the restroom and other places. No evidence of illegal gambling was found at the scene.

The police applied charges of violating the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act against them, notified the local district office, and plan to investigate Mr. A to determine whether illegal gambling occurred at the establishment.
