Started in 1996 and now in its 26th edition, the World Baduk Masters is known as the 'Festival of Stars' and is a representative Baduk tournament leading changes and innovations in the global Baduk community.
Following last year, all matches this year will be held online, with finalists selected through national preliminaries. The national preliminaries will select a total of 19 players: 15 in the general division, 2 in the women's division, and 2 in the senior division. The domestic preliminaries offer a total of 9 tickets: 7 for the general division, 1 for the senior division, and 1 for the women's division. The number of qualifiers by country is 7 from China, 2 from Japan, and 1 from Taiwan.
The main tournament matches will begin on October 20. The round of 32 will be held from October 20 to 28 in a single-elimination format to determine the two finalists. The finals will take place from November 1 to 3, with a total of three matches.
In last year's tournament, 9-dan Ke Jie from China defeated 9-dan Shin Jin-seo 2-0 in the finals, marking his fourth overall championship.
