Jeonnam Fire Department's '119 Life Safety Patrol Team' Expands to 22 Cities and Counties
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The 119 Life Safety Patrol, which was being piloted in Gangjin and Jangheung, Jeonnam, will be fully expanded to 22 cities and counties.
The Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Ma Jaeyoon) announced on the 18th that it held the inauguration ceremony for the '119 Life Safety Patrol' at the Jeonnam Fire Education Center auditorium.
The inauguration ceremony was held simply without inviting external guests due to COVID-19, with 36 dedicated members of the 119 Life Safety Patrol from the fire stations attending, showcasing a self-produced promotional video and receiving an encouragement speech from the Fire Headquarters chief.
As the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters expands the operation of the 119 Life Safety Patrol, it will provide life safety services to vulnerable households within the province.
Since the revision of the Fire Services Act in 2015, which included life safety activities within the scope of fire services,
the proportion of fire service activities has increased significantly, with an average of 18,677 life safety activities annually over the past three years in the province, accounting for 54.6% of rescue activities during the same period.
Accordingly, Jeonnam Fire aims to provide proactive fire services that reach residents ahead of time and expand safety areas related to daily fire safety, and with the support and approval of residents and the provincial council, it has decided to expand the program to all regions within the province.
The 119 Life Safety Patrol organizes three dedicated life safety patrol members per day at 18 fire stations, visiting about 2,000 vulnerable households monthly to support safety inspections for fire prevention, provide daily medical services, and preemptively remove risk factors.
Targeting 340,000 vulnerable households in the province, the support targets will be surveyed in advance, and service support schedules will be decided monthly by each town and township. The patrol will collaborate with welfare-related institutions and organizations in cities and counties to carry out field activities.
Ma Jaeyoon, Chief of Jeonnam Fire Headquarters, said, “With the official launch of the 119 Life Safety Patrol, more fire services will be provided to residents,” adding, “The patrol activities that proactively oversee safety in daily life will be the cornerstone for creating a safer Jeonnam.”
