Multiple Foreign Workers Confirmed COVID-19 Positive at Factories in Changnyeong and Haman, Gyeongnam (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] In Gyeongnam, the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) is showing no signs of slowing down, with new small-scale cluster infections occurring one after another.
Gyeongnam Province announced on the 18th that 105 new confirmed cases were reported on the 17th.
This marked two consecutive days of triple-digit confirmed cases, following 106 cases on the 16th.
As of 5 p.m. on the same day, 96 additional confirmed cases were reported since midnight.
Among the new infections were cluster cases at factories located in Changnyeong and Haman.
At a factory in Changnyeong employing a total of 48 workers, including 33 foreign workers, one worker was first confirmed positive on the 13th.
On the 14th, 4 more cases were confirmed; on the 16th, 1 case; on the 17th, 1 case; and on the day of reporting, 10 additional cases were confirmed.
In just five days, 17 confirmed cases emerged from this factory alone.
Except for one individual, all confirmed cases were foreign workers. Health authorities have identified that transmission occurred during their dormitory living arrangements.
At a factory in Haman, following the first confirmed case on the 16th, 8 more cases were confirmed on the same day.
Among the total 9 cases, all but one are foreign workers.
Regarding the cluster infection at Namchangwon Nonghyup Mart, where cases have been occurring since the 2nd, 2 additional confirmed cases were reported, bringing the total to 70.
The cumulative number of confirmed cases in the province has risen to 9,102.
