Shinan-gun Holds 12th Memorial Ceremony for Former President Kim Dae-jung in Hometown Haedo

View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] On the 18th, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Park Woo-ryang) held a memorial service on Haedo Island to commemorate the 12th anniversary of the death of President Kim Dae-jung.
The memorial service was held simply in compliance with COVID-19 quarantine rules, attended by Governor Park Woo-ryang, Chairman Kim Hyuk-sung, and heads of related organizations.
The memorial service for President Kim Dae-jung has been held annually on Haedo Island since the president's passing.
Sinan-gun plans to create a Peace Forest of the Korean Peninsula around the birthplace as a practical measure to reflect on and carry forward the values of democracy, human rights, and peace that former President Kim emphasized during his lifetime.
Additionally, the construction of the East Asia Human Rights and Peace Art Museum is being promoted on Sinui Island, adjacent to the Republic of Korea Political History Archive Hall.

Governor Park Woo-ryang stated in his memorial address, “It is regrettable that the Peace Camp, which used to be held with participants from all over the country, could not be held due to COVID-19,” and added, “We will make the three Haedo Islands a sanctuary of peace through various cultural and artistic events and the establishment of the East Asia Human Rights and Peace Art Museum.”
