[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] Jeong Se-gyun, former Prime Minister and Democratic Party presidential pre-candidate, pressured Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung, saying, "This is not a matter of stubbornness. The appointment of Hwang Kyo-ik as president of the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization must be withdrawn."
On the 18th, Jeong posted on his Facebook, "Recently, the appointment of Hwang Kyo-ik as president of the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization has become an issue. Candidate Lee Jae-myung has made various explanations, but to the public, they appear only as excuses," he said.
He continued, "The majority of the public believes this appointment is a secretive act of favoritism. The public's criticism reflects the judgment that the personnel process of candidate Lee Jae-myung, who claimed fairness, was neither transparent nor just," adding, "The worsening public opinion could spread not only to candidate Lee but to the entire Democratic Party, which must be carefully considered."
Jeong also criticized the response from former Democratic Party leader and presidential candidate Lee Nak-yeon’s camp. He said, "This controversy should be resolved through objective verification and pointing out problems while waiting for the results, but the criticism from Lee Nak-yeon’s side has gone too far," and added, "The core issue is to examine why Hwang Kyo-ik was appointed and whether the appointment procedures and process were proper. Baseless 'pro-Japanese' accusations against Hwang Kyo-ik are defamation and a typical example of the negative campaigning that Lee Nak-yeon promised not to engage in."
Regarding Hwang Kyo-ik, the appointed taste columnist for the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization, Jeong said, "Responses such as calling him a 'beast, not a human' and focusing on 'cutting off his political life' are insults to the appointing authority," and criticized, "Despite being able to control his emotions with more careful words, he has made the entire democratic camp uncomfortable with words that cannot be uttered."
Furthermore, Jeong emphasized to Governor Lee, "You must take responsibility and resolve this. Withdraw the appointment of Hwang Kyo-ik as soon as possible."
