[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The number of dispatches for beehive safety measures has increased by more than 28% compared to last year as of July this year. In particular, the number of dispatches in July alone reached 2,138, showing a surge of over 57% compared to last year.
According to the Fire and Disaster Headquarters on the 18th, from 2018 to 2020, there were 20,928 dispatches for beehive safety measures over the past three years, of which 15,292 dispatches occurred between July and September, accounting for 73.1% of the total. The number of dispatches for beehive safety measures up to July this year totaled 3,854, an increase of 28.3% compared to the same period last year, and the number of dispatches in July alone was 2,138, up 57.3% compared to the same period last year.
By location, residential areas and apartments where people live accounted for 13,313 cases, representing 63.6% of the total. By district, Nowon-gu had the highest number with 1,522 cases, followed by Eunpyeong-gu with 1,487 cases, Gangnam-gu with 1,474 cases, and Seocho-gu with 1,436 cases.
In response, the Fire and Disaster Headquarters urged the public to prevent bee stings by ▲wearing bright-colored clothes and hats during outdoor activities such as hiking ▲refraining from using perfume, cosmetics, and sprays ▲not attempting to remove beehives around homes forcibly but reporting to 119 instead. They also emphasized that if stung by a bee, one should quickly remove the stinger using a credit card or similar object, wash the skin thoroughly with running water, and promptly visit a hospital for treatment if symptoms such as itching, hives, or difficulty breathing occur.
