Mandatory Voice Phishing Prevention Training for Small Business Owners... 200,000 People to Complete Training Annually
Financial Supervisory Service and Small Enterprise Promotion Agency
Joint Operation of Voice Phishing Damage Prevention Program Starting from the 30th
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] Starting from the 30th of this month, small business owners in the early stages of their ventures must mandatorily undergo voice phishing prevention education to receive policy funds from the Small Enterprise and Market Service, such as the ‘Startup Initial Fund’.
On the 16th, the Financial Supervisory Service and the Small Enterprise and Market Service announced that they have jointly prepared a voice phishing damage prevention program for small business owners, which will be implemented from the 30th. This measure was established due to the continuous occurrence of voice phishing scams targeting small business owners recently, and concerns over an increase in voice phishing disguised as disaster relief fund payments in the future.
First, completion of voice phishing prevention education will be mandatory when applying for policy funds from the Service, such as startup and operating funds. Small business owners in the early stages who wish to receive policy funds like the ‘Startup Initial Fund’ must complete the education provided by the Service. The Financial Supervisory Service and the Service plan to include voice phishing-related prevention education as mandatory training starting from the 30th of this month and require its completion. The education will utilize videos produced recently by the Financial Supervisory Service, covering major types of voice phishing, damage cases, and prevention tips.
From the 30th of this month, during consulting sessions (Small Business Capacity Building Project) targeting about 5,000 small business owners conducted by the Service, consultants will distribute and provide guidance on materials related to ▲the latest types of voice phishing ▲prevention tips, and ▲response measures in case of damage. To prepare for this, the Financial Supervisory Service will conduct online voice phishing prevention education for consultants from the 26th to the 30th of this month.
Voice phishing prevention promotional materials will also be posted and distributed at 70 support centers nationwide. Posters on voice phishing prevention will be displayed at the Service’s Small Business Support Centers (70 nationwide), the Korea Productivity Center (Seoul), the Korea Smart Consulting Association (Gyeonggi·Incheon), and the Korea Standards Association (Busan·Ulsan·Gyeongnam), which are six regional professional institutions involved in the capacity building project. Through these centers, promotional materials on the latest types of voice phishing, prevention tips, and response measures in case of damage will be distributed to visitors and other education participants.
