LG Chem Yeosu Plant Supports Eyelid Ptosis Correction Surgery for 10 Years
Support for Elderly Unable to Receive Treatment Due to Difficult Family Circumstances
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Sim Kyung-taek] LG Chem's Yeosu plant has been sponsoring eyelid ptosis correction surgery for low-income elderly people who cannot receive treatment due to difficult financial circumstances and expensive surgery costs for 10 years.
'Eyelid ptosis' is a condition where the eyelids droop significantly due to aging, causing decreased vision, headaches, and serious difficulties in daily activities such as walking.
Many low-income elderly suffer from eyelid ptosis symptoms, but they are unable to undergo surgery due to the burden of surgery costs amounting to about 1 million KRW. Since 2012, LG Chem Yeosu plant has supported surgery costs for a total of about 230 local elderly people over approximately 9 years.
Applications for the program are being accepted from August 16 to September 3 at each eup/myeon office, dong community center, and Yeosu Senior Welfare Center. Required documents include an application form, a status survey form, and a recommendation letter. Eligible applicants are those aged 60 or older who are recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security or near-poverty class, and low-income individuals among the general population (those paying less than 20,000 KRW in health insurance premiums).
Once applications are received, the final recipients will be selected through a review by a selection committee composed of LG Chem, Yeosu City Hall, and Yeosu Senior Welfare Center.
Afterward, plastic surgery specialists will conduct medical examinations and consultations, and surgeries will begin around the end of September. In November, a longevity photo shoot and a nearby area outing program will be held for the elderly who have completed surgery.
A representative of LG Chem's social contribution activities said, "In the midst of the ongoing severe COVID-19 situation, we are pleased to be able to convey warm hearts to the local elderly in need," and added, "We will continue to carry out programs to help the community with Well-Aging."
