Muan-gun Provides Emergency Welfare Support to 643 Vulnerable Households... Closing Blind Spots
County Governor Kim San: "We Will Quickly Support Living and Medical Expenses for Welfare-Excluded Groups"
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Muan County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) announced on the 12th that it has achieved remarkable results in eliminating welfare blind spots by fully utilizing the budget of 430 million KRW allocated to 643 low-income crisis households facing economic difficulties, actively identifying and supporting low-income crisis families struggling due to COVID-19 and the economic recession in the first half of this year.
Emergency welfare support is a system that quickly provides living expenses, medical expenses, etc., to low-income crisis households having difficulty maintaining their livelihood due to sudden crisis situations such as the death, unemployment, or business closure of the main income earner, helping them to overcome the crisis.
Temporary relaxed criteria are applied until the 30th of next month, allowing applications for emergency welfare support if the income criteria meet 75% or less of the median income (1.37 million KRW for a single person), property criteria are 170 million KRW or less, and financial assets are 5 million KRW or less (with a deduction of 150% of the median income for living preparation funds).
The support funds consist of living support (474,600 KRW per person) and medical support (up to 3 million KRW), and applications can be made through consultations at the customized welfare teams of the local town and township offices.
The county plans to actively support the stabilization of low-income households by securing an additional emergency welfare budget of 520 million KRW in the second half of the year, investing a total budget of 950 million KRW in establishing a field-based close cooperation system utilizing human safety nets at the town and township levels, such as welfare task forces.
Governor Kim San said, “To overcome the worsening difficulties in people’s livelihoods due to the resurgence of COVID-19, we will actively identify welfare marginalized groups in need of help and strive to provide living and medical expenses support promptly.”
