Late Park Won-soon’s side Jung Cheol-seung: "Sookmyung Girls' High School twins got 3 years... Does Jung Kyung-shim's 4-year sentence make sense?"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Seohyun] Jeong Cheolseung, lawyer for the late former Seoul Mayor Park Wonsoon, expressed anger over the appellate court ruling on former Dongyang University professor Jeong Gyeongshim, saying, "How can Jeong Gyeongshim’s 4-year sentence make sense?"
On the 11th, Lawyer Jeong stated on his Facebook, "I fully understand the circumstances that the court cannot possibly issue a verdict that would 'acquit Jeong Gyeongshim' and shut down the prosecution, since the police, who were partners in crime, messed up. But a 4-year prison sentence?"
He added, "Even if all the charges that Jeong Gyeongshim forged the Dongyang University president’s certificate of commendation, inserted her children’s names into papers, and falsely wrote about internships are true, a 4-year sentence is the same as that of a mitigated murderer," and questioned, "Moreover, since this was the act of Professor Jeong Gyeongshim and it happened when former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk was just an ordinary university professor, what is the reason for aggravated punishment?"
He continued, "There was a case where a high school vice principal taught exam questions to his daughter, who was not even in the top 100 in the school, making her first in the entire school, and that too for two daughters... That case only resulted in a 3-year prison sentence," and criticized, "A serious case that directly destroyed the public’s trust in the fairness of our country’s educational grading system and college entrance system also resulted in a 3-year sentence, so how can the crime of forging the Dongyang University president’s certificate of commendation be punished with 4 years in prison?"
The Sookmyung Girls’ High School twins case mentioned by Lawyer Jeong refers to last year’s case where the former vice principal of Sookmyung Girls’ High School was prosecuted for leaking exam questions and answers to his daughters and was sentenced to 3 years in prison.

He said, "I have never once said that Professor Jeong Gyeongshim is innocent or that the late Mayor Park Wonsoon was innocent. Because I do not know those matters," and added, "However, even if the prosecution’s charges and the victim woman’s claims are all true, if unjust charges and excessive ethical condemnation are imposed on the deceased, I can say that is unfair." He also added, "(The verdict of former Professor Jeong’s trial) is unfair when viewed against objective and rational standards."
He went on to share a past post of his, saying, "Coincidentally or not, I also posted criticism of the court on this day three years ago," which included the content, "I thought that the reason Assemblyman Roh Hoechan took his own life might have been because he did not want to be mocked by the judiciary again."
