Hong Nam-ki "Consulting with the Business Community"... Chey Tae-won "Full Government Support Needed" (Comprehensive Report 2)
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jihwan] On the 11th, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Hong Nam-ki stated at a meeting with economic organization leaders that he would listen to the opinions of the business community on economic issues and proceed with consultations with the economic sector.
At the meeting with economic organization leaders held at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Hong said, "We will gather opinions from the business community and proceed with consultations on economic issues, including next year's minimum wage and the level of the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) to be submitted in 2030." He emphasized that if the business community provides broad on-site feedback, he will listen attentively and strive to reflect it in policies as much as possible.
He also added, "We hope to encourage the participation of more companies in the future, discover more diverse forms of cooperation models, and continue momentum for cooperation and memorandums of understanding between the government and economic organizations." He further stated, "We look forward to the business community and the government putting their heads together and cooperating to recover and rebound the economy and prepare for the future economy."
In response to Deputy Prime Minister Hong's remarks, Chey Tae-won, Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said, "We are currently in a period of great upheaval where the paradigm of the economic society is changing all at once," and requested, "The government should provide full support so that the business community can take bold challenges."
He emphasized, "The United States and the European Union have already made astronomical investments in the carbon neutrality sector, and we hope to see bold investments and support as well." He added, "Since enormous funds are required only for research and development investments, it is difficult for companies or industries to develop independently, and collaboration among the government, academia, and industry is essential."
Regarding the electric vehicle infrastructure issue, he said, "Germany expands electric vehicle subsidies every year, but in our case, the support budget is repeatedly exhausted early or there are waiting situations," and requested bold support in next year's budget.
