[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the afternoon of the 10th, Seong Jang-hyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, visited the Yongsan Senior Specialized Nursing Home in Hyochang-dong to inspect the current status of COVID-19 prevention measures at the elderly care facility.
First, to ensure the stable operation of elderly welfare facilities, which are frontline sites for COVID-19 response, he checked disinfection equipment such as full-body disinfectors and non-face-to-face visitation rooms, and toured convenience facilities for users, including ongoing parking lot improvement construction sites.
He then spoke with care workers, medical staff, and social workers working on site, offering words of comfort, encouragement, and requests to the residents and related personnel for their hard work.
Mayor Seong said, “Improving the treatment of long-term care institution workers, who are undervalued compared to the intensity of their labor, is the best way to enhance elderly care services,” adding, “We will do our utmost to establish systems that can provide a foundation for creating an environment where workers can offer high-quality services.”
Currently, the district is preparing grounds to improve the treatment of workers affiliated with long-term care institutions in the area and to promote welfare and status enhancement. Through active communication with the field, including surveys and opinion gathering, the district plans to actively work to establish effective systems.

On the 11th, Yoo Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, visited three households of descendants of independence patriots to offer encouragement in celebration of Liberation Day, and held a meeting at the Geumcheon-gu branch of the Liberation Association.
According to the district, there are currently a total of 120 households of independence patriots’ descendants residing in Geumcheon-gu.

On the 11th at 4 p.m., Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, Seoul, attended the test ride ceremony of the ‘Nowon Child-Friendly Taxi’ held in the district office parking lot.
The ‘Nowon Child-Friendly Taxi’ is a service provided for families with pregnant women and children under 24 months to use when visiting hospitals for medical purposes. It is available on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for visits to hospitals within the district, and reservations can be made through the district office website.
The selection of drivers is promoted by the Nowon Senior Happiness Corporation, launched in June, which is expected to contribute to creating jobs for seniors in the area.
This pilot operation was arranged to conduct a final check before official operation on the 17th, ensuring that infants, young children, and pregnant women do not experience any inconvenience.
The test ride ceremony proceeded with commemorative photos and rides attended by Mayor Oh Seung-rok and Choi Yoon-nam, Chairperson of the District Council. The pilot route was ‘Nowon District Office ~ Nowon Station Line 4 ~ Sunbogeum Church ~ Lotte Department Store ~ Nowon District Office.’
Mayor Oh said, “It is not easy for pregnant women and young children to use public transportation to visit hospitals, and the risk of infection due to COVID-19 has made it even more difficult,” expressing hope that “the ‘Nowon Child-Friendly Taxi’ will help alleviate these inconveniences even a little.”
On the 11th, Yoo Dong-gyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, along with National Assembly member Jeong Cheong-rae, Seoul City Council members Kim Ki-deok and Jeong Jin-sul, and Mapo-gu council members Shin Jong-gap and Choi Eun-ha, visited the World Cup Bridge, scheduled to open on September 1, for an on-site inspection.
