Jeongeup-si Holds 'Final Report Meeting on Population Policy Establishment Research Service'
[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk announced on the 11th that it held the ‘Final Report Meeting on Population Policy Establishment Research Service’ chaired by Mayor Yoo Jinseop on the 10th at the city hall multipurpose space.
The final report meeting was held with the attendance of 10 senior officials and 6 researchers from the service agency.
The city intensified efforts to wrap up the research service by putting their heads together to find clues to solve population issues.
On that day, the service agency reported on the characteristics of population changes and the analysis of population policy achievements, as well as the discovery of population policy tasks, reporting on the progress made so far. They identified 15 projects in four areas: low birthrate response, youth jobs, improvement of residential conditions, and support for returning farmers and rural migrants.
The discovered projects will be planned and promoted by the relevant departments in the future, and this is the first time the city has conducted research on population policy establishment.
The purpose is to strengthen the city’s responsiveness to population changes and demographic structure changes and to seek a direction for sustainable regional development.
Since the beginning of this year, the city has been actively working to resolve population issues and seek long-term development directions. In February, it established a research service plan focusing on preventing population outflow and signed a service contract with the Jeonbuk Research Institute.
In May, a policy meeting was held to gather opinions for analyzing departmental project performance and discovering new projects. Following the interim report meeting held last month, after repeated reviews and supplements, the final service report meeting was held this time.
Mayor Yoo Jinseop said, “Preparing countermeasures against population decline is a demand of the times for us living in the modern era,” adding, “There are frequent movements in the National Assembly urging the enactment of the ‘Special Act on Support for Population Extinction Crisis Areas.’”
He continued, “The city needs prompt response to population issues, and it is a task that cannot succeed with interest in only one field,” adding, “Interdepartmental cooperation is essential, and at the same time, I ask the public and private sectors to make the utmost efforts together.”
