Committed to Developing 'NewSpace Leaders' to Open the Era of Private Space Development
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-su] The government has launched an initiative to train specialized personnel to lead the era of private space development.
On the morning of the 11th, the Ministry of Science and ICT held the inauguration ceremony for the 'NewSpace Leader 1st Class' at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) Satellite Research Center. This program aims to cultivate top-tier professionals capable of satellite system engineering through one-on-one customized (apprenticeship-style) practical training by experts from research institutions such as the KAIST Satellite Research Center for degree holders in space and related fields.
Applicants included master's and doctoral degree holders in aerospace, electrical and electronic engineering, and those with practical experience in space development. To reflect industry demands, corporate experts participated in in-depth interviews, and a final group of 10 was selected. The selected candidates will work as researchers at the KAIST Satellite Research Center until the end of next year, directly participating in the satellite system development projects underway at the center to acquire advanced practical satellite system skills.
After the training, a recruitment linkage program with space development companies will be conducted to enable immediate application of the acquired practical skills in the field.
