According to Mokpo Coast Guard Station (Chief Im Jae-su) on the 10th, on the morning of the 9th around 10 a.m., Police Officer Lee Kyung-hak (31) noticed suspicious phone conversations of a passenger seated behind him on an express bus heading to Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province, and cleverly prevented voice phishing crime damage.
At that time, Officer Lee sensed that passenger A, sitting in the back seat, was in danger of voice phishing crime as A was forced to transfer money to another account for a loan during a phone call that lasted over two hours with suspicious content.
Officer Lee first reported to the police that A was a victim of voice phishing, and quickly provided additional information such as A’s appearance and the situation of A getting off the bus and taking a taxi, greatly assisting the initial investigation and preventing voice phishing damage amounting to about 10 million won in advance.
Officer Lee Kyung-hak said, “I did what I naturally should as a police officer,” and added, “I am relieved to have prevented major damage from voice phishing fraud.”
