[AKYUNG Poll] Lee Nak-yeon Leads Yoon Seok-yeol in Hypothetical Head-to-Head Matchup

Lee Nak-yeon Shows High Support Cohesion Within Democratic Party
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] In a hypothetical one-on-one matchup for the next presidential election, former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon was found to be leading former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl within the margin of error.
Asia Economy commissioned Win-G Korea Consulting to conduct a public opinion poll from the 7th to 8th of this month targeting 1,006 voters nationwide aged 18 and older (100% mobile phone virtual numbers, automated response). The results showed that former leader Lee received 45.0%, leading former Prosecutor General Yoon, who received 42.6%, by 2.4 percentage points, which is within the margin of error.
In the three previous polls conducted using the same method, former leader Lee consistently showed a trend of leading former Prosecutor General Yoon within the margin of error.
Compared to the previous poll conducted on the 24th-25th of last month using the same method, both former leader Lee (-0.6 percentage points) and former Prosecutor General Yoon (-0.8 percentage points) saw declines.
Former leader Lee showed strength among women, those in their 30s to 50s, and in the Honam, Gangwon, and Jeju regions. Former Prosecutor General Yoon showed strength among men, those aged 60 and above, and in Daegu and Gyeongbuk.
In Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam, the race was close with former leader Lee at 47.2% and former Prosecutor General Yoon at 43.0%. In Gyeonggi and Incheon, former leader Lee had 43.8% and former Prosecutor General Yoon had 40.1%, showing similar results. In Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungcheong, former leader Lee had 44.1% and former Prosecutor General Yoon had 46.4%.
Meanwhile, in the one-on-one matchup, 81.7% of Democratic Party supporters backed former leader Lee, while 90.0% of People Power Party supporters backed former Prosecutor General Yoon. Win-G Korea analyzed that "compared to the one-on-one matchup between Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung and former Prosecutor General Yoon, the Democratic Party supporters showed a 10 percentage point higher level of consolidation."

▶How was the survey conducted?
This survey was conducted by Asia Economy through Win-G Korea Consulting targeting voters aged 18 and older nationwide from the 7th to 8th of this month, with 1,006 respondents and an overall response rate of 7.0%. The survey method was wireless ARS using 100% mobile phone virtual numbers, and the sample was extracted with weighted values by gender, age, and region based on the resident registration population as of the end of January 2021 from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (cell weighting). The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
