Unpacked Approaching in One Day... Will Samsung Unveil the 'S Pen Pro'?
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Samsung Electronics' second half new product launch event, 'Galaxy Unpacked,' is just one day away, and there are expectations that the new 'S Pen Pro' will appear alongside the next-generation foldable smartphone, the 'Galaxy Z Fold3.'
On the 9th (local time), IT specialist media SamMobile released a leaked video of the S Pen Pro, which is compatible with the Z Fold3.
The introduction of the S Pen Pro, which can be used with the new foldable phone, is one of the highlights of this Unpacked event. Since Samsung Electronics decided not to release the 'Galaxy Note' series this year, whether the S Pen's performance, which can enhance the usability of the Z Fold3, will be improved is also a matter of market interest. The S Pen has been a representative feature of the 'Galaxy Note' series and has been consistently requested by consumers since Samsung launched the Galaxy Fold in 2019.
Earlier, Samsung Electronics' Mobile Communications Business President (CEO) Tae-moon Roh officially confirmed S Pen support for the Z Fold3 in an article. He said, "Please look forward to amazing changes such as the first S Pen usability on a foldable phone," and added, "Although the Galaxy Note series will not be introduced this time, the Note experience will continue to expand across multiple Galaxy devices."
The S Pen Pro (model number EJ-P5450), approved by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC), was announced in January along with the S Pen for the 'Galaxy S21 Ultra' released earlier this year but was not launched. The S Pen Pro is somewhat larger than the existing S Pen, supports low-energy Bluetooth (BLE) to enable specialized features such as Air Actions, and supports USB-C charging. According to the released images, the S Pen Pro comes in a single black color and features a button with an LED on the grip area.
The S Pen Pro is compatible with both the S21 Ultra and the Z Fold3. SamMobile explained, "Samsung may have used a special material for the pen tip of the S Pen Pro to avoid damaging the relatively softer foldable screen of the Z Fold3."
Additionally, the Z Fold3's S Pen is known to be supported separately rather than being embedded in a dedicated slot like the Galaxy Note series, and an image of a case with an S Pen storage space has also been revealed. According to the image released by IT tipster Roland Quandt, the case allows the S Pen to be inserted and stored in the folding part of the foldable phone.
