Sunday Records Highest New COVID-19 Cases... Non-Capital Region Accounts for Nearly 40% (Update)

The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced that as of midnight on the 9th, the number of new domestic COVID-19 cases increased by 1,492, bringing the total to 212,448. Of these, 1,455 were domestic cases and 37 were imported cases.
By region, Seoul reported 414 cases, Gyeonggi 402, and Incheon 65, with the metropolitan area totaling 881 cases, accounting for 60.5% of domestic cases.
Non-metropolitan areas reported a total of 574 cases, accounting for 39.5% of domestic cases, including Busan 121, Gyeongnam 87, Daegu 82, Chungnam 65, Daejeon 42, Chungbuk 38, Gyeongbuk 30, Ulsan 25, Gangwon 23, Jeonbuk 20, Gwangju 15, Jeonnam 14, Jeju 11, and Sejong 1.
The proportion of cases in non-metropolitan areas has been fluctuating around 40% over the past week.
Among the 37 imported cases, 13 were identified during quarantine, and the remaining 24 were confirmed in the community. Sixteen were Korean nationals and 21 were foreigners. Twenty-five cases were confirmed from Asian countries excluding China.
The number of critically ill patients is 367. Four additional deaths were reported the previous day, bringing the total death toll to 2,125, with a fatality rate of 1.00%.
The number of newly released from isolation increased by 1,239, totaling 186,242.
The number of suspected cases tested was 30,388. At temporary screening clinics set up in the metropolitan area, 33,403 tests were conducted, confirming 273 cases. In non-metropolitan temporary screening clinics, 16,532 tests were conducted, identifying 103 cases. The total number of tests conducted was 80,323.

View original imageAccording to the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team, 27,507 people received their first dose the previous day, bringing the total number of first-dose recipients to 20,935,989. The vaccination rate for the first dose relative to the population is 40.8%.
There were 2,234 new second-dose vaccinations, with a total of 7,721,046 people having completed their vaccination. The vaccination completion rate relative to the population is 15.0%.
A total of 1,603 new cases suspected of adverse reactions following COVID-19 vaccination were reported on the 7th and 8th.

Among these, two cases were suspected anaphylaxis, and 31 cases of major adverse reactions such as neurological symptoms were reported. No new death reports were filed.
