[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Soyoung] Won Heeryong, a preliminary candidate for the People Power Party's presidential primary, sharply criticized Yoon Seok-yeol's campaign, which used metaphors like dolphins and anchovies, saying, "Those who claim to be close aides should put their hands on their hearts and reflect on whether they are going against the overwhelming public desire for regime change."
In an interview on June 9th with CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show,' Candidate Won said, "The reason former Prosecutor General Yoon rose to the status of a national idol was because he symbolized fairness against the unfairness of the Moon Jae-in administration's divisiveness and double standards," adding, "However, such remarks inevitably raise the question of whether Yoon Seok-yeol's fairness is nothing more than the fairness found in the animal kingdom."
Regarding reports that Yoon's camp requested him to boycott volunteer activities, Won explained his avoidance of confirmation by citing a line from the movie Gokseong, 'What is important,' and said, "Since the primary is at its early stage and I am emphasizing a one-team spirit, it did not align with my priorities."
He expressed concern, saying, "This is not the important issue; the People Power Party seems to be suffering from short-term memory loss," and added, "They have forgotten the lessons from the last general election defeat and the Seoul mayoral victory in the by-election."
He continued, "Newcomers are only stimulating conservative voters, lining up lawmakers to form factions, and openly inciting regional sentiments," criticizing, "New family members entering the household should think about expanding the bigger household, but this obsession with inheriting the family estate is very disappointing."
He further stated, "The lesson from the April 7 by-election is that regime change is impossible with only anti-Moon sentiment attacking the failures of the Moon Jae-in government without gaining moderate votes," and argued, "To gain centrist support, two things must be proven."

Candidate Won identified the proofs needed to gain centrist support as "demonstrating that we are more competent than the Moon Jae-in administration and that a vision is prepared, and secondly, exhibiting dignified words and actions befitting the high level of public consciousness." He warned, "If this is missed, the victory in the April 7 by-election could end as a brief, fleeting dream."
