US CDC: "COVID-19 Vaccine Unvaccinated Have Twice the Reinfection Rate Compared to Vaccinated"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] A study has found that unvaccinated individuals have twice the reinfection rate of vaccinated individuals even after recovering from the COVID-19 virus.
On the 6th (local time), according to The Hill and others, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported in the "Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR)" that the reinfection rate of unvaccinated residents in Kentucky was 2.34 times higher than that of vaccinated individuals.
The study was conducted on 246 Kentucky residents who were diagnosed with COVID-19 last year and reinfected between May and June this year. The CDC used 492 individuals who were infected with COVID-19 last year but not reinfected as the control group for the study.
According to the findings, the natural immunity duration after recovery from COVID-19 for unvaccinated individuals was estimated to be less than 90 days. The CDC also suggested that variant viruses such as Delta likely influenced reinfections among unvaccinated people.
