[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Since the outbreak of COVID-19, Busan recorded the highest number of daily confirmed cases at 171. This sharply surpassed the previous record of 118 set on July 23.
According to Busan City on the 7th, as of the afternoon of the previous day to the afternoon of the 7th, 171 new confirmed cases were added, bringing the cumulative total to 8,978.
A cluster infection occurred among staff and patients at a nursing hospital in Gijang-gun, and confirmed cases are pouring out from various facilities and places such as restaurants, PC rooms, karaoke rooms, and pubs.
At the nursing hospital in Gijang-gun, after three staff members were first infected, chain infections involving patients and their families have accumulated to 39 as of this day.
Most of the confirmed cases are known to have completed two doses of vaccination.
Among the 34 infected, one received the Pfizer vaccine, and 33 received AstraZeneca.
Health authorities consider these cases as ‘breakthrough infections’ since the most recent vaccination date among them was June 28.
Of the 171 confirmed cases, by region, there were 3 in Jung-gu, 3 in Seo-gu, 3 in Dong-gu, 4 in Yeongdo-gu, 18 in Busanjin-gu, 7 in Dongnae-gu, 7 in Nam-gu, 3 in Buk-gu, 13 in Haeundae-gu, 6 in Saha-gu, 7 in Geumjeong-gu, 4 in Gangseo-gu, 11 in Yeonje-gu, 14 in Suyeong-gu, 6 in Sasang-gu, and 12 in Gijang, covering all 16 districts and counties of Busan. Additionally, there were 43 cases from hospitals, 2 from overseas, and 5 from other regions.
By age group, there were 7 under 10, 5 in their teens, 33 in their 20s, 31 in their 30s, 25 in their 40s, 20 in their 50s, 17 in their 60s, 10 in their 70s, and 23 aged 80 or older.
