On that day, Pastor Lim Han-seop, head of the General Assembly's Social Service Department, and Senior Pastor Lee Ja-seop of Maryang Church visited the affected fishing households along with Lee Seung-ok, Gangjin County Governor, Park Beom-seok, Chairman of Gangjin County Fisheries Cooperative, and Kang Han-seong, Maryang Township Chief, to offer consolation and delivered 10 million KRW prepared by the General Assembly and 3 million KRW collected from Maryang Church members as relief funds.
Senior Pastor Lee Ja-seop of Maryang Church said, “Sharing the same heart and humbly considering others better than oneself is the will of Christ. The General Assembly and church members have united their hearts to restore the damage caused by the heavy rains and support the fishermen. We pray that they overcome their hardships quickly and that daily life is restored.”
Governor Lee Seung-ok said, “It must be difficult to operate the church due to COVID-19, but entrusting relief funds for the fishing households affected by the heavy rains is by no means an easy task. I am truly grateful for the heart that thinks of others more than oneself.”
Meanwhile, due to the recent heavy rains, freshwater inundated the abalone farms in Maryang, lowering salinity levels and causing the death of approximately 22.61 million abalones over about 40 hectares of licensed area, resulting in damage worth hundreds of billions of KRW. Gangjin, Haenam, Jangheung, and Jindo were designated as special disaster areas.
