Tongyeong City Conducts Test Cultivation of New Sweet Potato Variety for Vegetables 'Tongchaeru'
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Tongyeong City, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 5th that they harvested the new sweet potato variety for leafy petiole vegetables, 'Tongchaeru,' at the farm of farmer Jo Myeongsik in Gwandeok-ri, Dosan-myeon, who participated in the 'Sweet Potato Field Demonstration Test' on the 29th.
The 2021 field demonstration test for the new sweet potato variety for leafy petiole vegetables is a trial to create a cultivation site by growing the test variety Tongchaeru (Mokpo No. 111) and the existing cultivated variety Shinmi.
The test variety 'Tongchaeru' is a leafy petiole vegetable sweet potato with a large yield of petioles and purple skin.
Its skin is tender and can be eaten without peeling, allowing consumption of more abundant health-functional components such as anthocyanins contained in the skin.
The petiole yield of 'Tongchaeru' is 10.3 tons per 10 ares under facility cultivation, and the vitamin C and anthocyanin content in the petioles are 1.7 times and 11.9 times higher than those of 'Shinmi,' respectively.
